Norbert HINTERSTEINER is a Full Professor and Director of the Institute of Missiology and the Study of Theologies Beyond Europe at the Catholic Theological Faculty of the University of Münster in Germany (since 2013). Before, he held academic positions at Trinity College Dublin (2009-2013) and The Catholic University of America in Washington D.C. (2004-2008).
He received his Doctorate (Th.D.) at the Jesuit Philosophisch-Theologische Hochschule of St.Georgen / Frankfurt in 2000.
His areas of interest are cross-cultural theology, with an emphasis on Christianity in Indo-Persian history and select regions of contemporary Asia; comparative theology and interreligious studies.
He served on the Executive of the International Association of Mission Studies (IAMS) since 2016 and as Editor-in-Chief of Mission Studies, the journal of IAMS (2021-2024).
